1503 CLASSIC CUVÉE SPARKLING England
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer BALFOUR
This note is based on a blind comparative tasting of 4 sparkling wines which turned out to be the new Vintager November 22 English Classic Cuvee releases. Tasted first, Balfour was the least expensive at $54.95. It was easy-going, dry, medium bodied, harmonious, ready-to-drink and fairly effervescent with some mild, lemon-melon-apricot flavours. A tad shy in terms of complexity and staying power. It would be a buy in the $30 range, but only a try at $56. It has 12% alcohol and 11 g/L residual sugar with lot number L250801 on the back label. TASTING NOTE: Classically structured and beautifully balanced, delicate fruit aromas dance with creamier, toastier ones. It hints at jasmine, white peach, apple with custard and lemon oil. There's a silkiness to the mouthfeel, then a crunch of acidity and fine bubbles. Those delicate aromas flow seamlessly into flavors. A poised and ultra-food-friendly bottling. The back label suggests fish and chips. This reviewer agrees. Score - 94 (Christina Pickard, Wine Enthusiast, Dec. 1, 2022) Price $ 55.95
