VIÑA BOSCONIA RESERVA 2014 DOCa Rioja
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer R. LÓPEZ DE HEREDIA
Founded in 1877, this still family-run bodega is the oldest in Haro and was one of the first three in Rioja. This 2014 has a youthful deep intense purple red colour. The nose is intense, quite complex and still edgy with mineral-driven, Damson-plum-cassis-cherry fruit along with complex cedary notes. Dry, medium-full to full bodied and well structured, the intense, plum-red-cherry-cassis fruit flavours are followed up by a lingering, minerally, rather cedary, still youthful finish. Aged 5 years in American oak (225 litres), this has a hefty 6.5 g/L total acidity and is unfiltered. This blend of 80% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacha and 5% Graciano and Mazuelo has 13.5% alcohol and under 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L-1281 on the back label. It still needs time. CSPC 529586

TASTING NOTE: Bosconia is a very traditional Rioja Reserva blend, produced from a combination of Tempranillo, 10% Garnacha and 5% each of Graciano and Mazuelo. Sourced from the 59-year-old El Bosque vineyard in Haro, it's earthy, savoury and challengingly focused, with classic notes of rosehip, petrichor, beetroot and dried herbs, very tangy acidity and a firm, Barolo-like finish. Gloriously unique. Score - 94 (Tim Atkin, MW, timatkin.com, Rioja Special Report 2025) Price $ 59.95
