GARNACHA 2021 DO Calatayud, vegan
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer CLOS BALTASAR
Fairly deep red colour. Bright, slightly spicy, very faintly savoury, raspberry-plum nose with some cedary notes. Dry, medium-deep bodied, very bright, fairly intense, plum-raspberry flavours with a still somewhat youthful, very gently cedary, lingering, faintly grippy finish. It is showing nicely now and would work well with lamb and tomato-based dishes. This blend of 70% old vines Garnacha, 10% Miguel de Arco, 10% Bobal and 10% Moristel has 14.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L1110523 on the back label.

TASTING NOTE: The 2021 Clos Baltasar was produced with Garnacha from two old vineyards - Matallana in the village of Atea on red schist soils at 950 meters in altitude and Buitrón in Acered on clay and quartzite soils at 1,000 meters above sea level. It fermented with 40% full clusters and the rest uncrushed grapes in concrete vats and matured in a combination of concrete eggs and 3,000-liter oak foudre for 10 months. This is still a little oaky but less so than last time, and it has a medium to full-bodied palate, a juicy mouthfeel, abundant, fine-grained tannins and a spicy finish. Drink date: 2023-2028.
