L'ARDOISE NIAGARA CHARDONNAY 2023 VQA Niagara Peninsula
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer BACHELDER
Bright medium straw colour. Quite intense, faintly spicy, ripe, lemon-apple meringue aromas with gently toasty, mineral notes. Dry, medium-plus bodied, nicely structured, bright, fresh, ripe, lemon-apple meringue flavours with a lingering, harmonious, fairly crisp, minerally, gently cedary finish. I liked the fact that this 2023 seemed to be relatively tropical-fruit-free (something that has been present in some of the previous releases). Aged for 16 months in neutral oak barrels, it has 12.5% alcohol and under 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L2025-02-03 on the lower part of the glass bottle. CSPC 302083

TASTING NOTE: L'Ardoise 2023 Chardonnay is a dry, medium-bodied wine sourced from some of the oldest vineyards in the Niagara Peninsula. Reflecting its name, \"The Slate,\" this wine carries the essence of the region's ancient limestone and shale soils. Fermented and aged in barrels, it's vibrant and fresh with a bouquet of honeysuckle, ripe yellow apple, and pear, complemented by vanilla and a silky touch of cinnamon. The creamy texture and flinty mineral finish make it a perfect pairing with roast chicken or grilled swordfish. This elegant Chardonnay, crafted by Thomas Bachelder, is a true showcase of Niagara's terroir. Drink date: 2025-2027. Score - 91 (nataliemaclean.com, April 12, 2025) Price $ 25.95
