LA MONTESA 2021 DOCa Rioja, Spain
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer PALACIOS REMONDO
Fairly deep purple red colour. Bright, slightly spicy, vanilla-tinged, ripe Damson plum nose with some gently minerally black cherry notes. Dry, medium plus bodied, very bright, ripe, plum-crancherry-raspberry flavours with a lingering, very gently cedary, harmonious finish. Showing very nicely now but can still evolve. This dramatically improved Crianza blend is now 92% Garnacha (up from only 60% a decade ago) and 8% Tempranillo and Mazuelo. Aged for 12 months in barrels and bottled without any filtration, it has 14% alcohol and under 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L2333 on the back label. I am pleased to see it back in Vintages. TASTING NOTE: This vintage, 50% stems included. Sumptuously aromatic of plump cherries, leading into equally succulent fruits on the palate. Fresh acidity arrives lightly, and then grows leading to a long taut finish, with the slightest echo of oak. Very young now, it will give much pleasure as it matures. Drinking window: 2024-2030.
