NARANJO TORONTEL ORANGE WINE 2023 Valle del Maule
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer MATURANA
The 2022 edition first appeared at the LCBO in September 2023 at $29.95. This tasty 2023 is now $5 less expensive and definitely worth trying. Bright light orange colour, this natural orange wine has a distinctive, perfumed, slightly spicy, tangerine citrus nose with a faint hint of clove and Demerara sugar that I liked. Dry, medium plus bodied, slightly spicy, citrusy, ripe, Seville orange fruit with a fairly complex, faintly bitter, bright, crisp, lingering finish. The Torontel grape is actually Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains which is also known as Torrontes. It was aged for 9 months in concrete eggs and has 13.5% alcohol and 2.7 g/L residual sugar. CSPC 556217

TASTING NOTE: Here's a naranjo with a vivid, light orange hue that you don't come across very often. Very perfumed nose with orange blossoms, jasmine tea, white grapes and orange jelly. Medium- to full-bodied with some subtle, lightly grainy tannins and a floral finish. Drink now. Score - 91 (Zekun Shuai, jamessuckling.com, March 1, 2024) Price $ 24.95
