BACHELDER |
| Bright medium plus straw colour. Attractive, slightly spicy, faintly floral, slightly spicy, ripe, mature apple, yellow plum and pear on the nose with some minerally notes. Dry, medium-plus bodied, slightly spicy, ripe, wintermelon-apple-pear flavours with a lingering, lifted, harmonious, lingering, faintly buttery, very gently toasty, bright finish. Very nicely textured with a tad more complexity than the 92-point $39.95 Joy & Warren Saunders Vineyard. It is ready-to-drink now and has 13% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar with lot number L20240506 on the lower part of the glass bottle. |

| TASTING NOTE: On to some serious, terroir-driven chardonnay here as soon as we switch to the Bench from Niagaraon- the-Lake, where earth takes precedence over sky and dirt matters more than sun. I love the rich and silky, creamy palate with yellow and orange-fleshed fruit, also wood spice, though not from excessive wood but a different interpretation and expression of these (mostly) old barrels. Acids are firm and crunchy, framing limestone such as one sees in fine limestone expressions, red and white, from around the best parts of the world. Excellent length and depth. It's a fine vintage for the Saunders 'Haut' and its over 30 year old vines, perhaps the best yet. Best f60rom mid-next year. Tasted November 2024. Score - 94 (John Szabo, MS, winealign.com) |
