GGG GRAN GRANDE GUALTALLARY MALBEC 2021 Gualtallary, Valle de Uco, Mendoza
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer H.J. FABRE
This ripe, still very youthful, well structured 2021 vineyard-specific bottling Gran Grande Gualtallary Malbec needs a well-marbled steak and a big glass. Very deep intense purple colour, the nose has an abundance of intense, very ripe Damson plums with some toasty notes and a touch of minerally cassis. Dry, medium-full bodied and mouthfilling, the still somewhat grippy, intense, firm, ripe, plum fruit shows great harmony and is followed by a lingering, cedary finish. It comes in an extremely heavy bottle and has 14% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L34024 on the back label. Not quite up to the 2020 edition. CSPC 35429

TASTING NOTE: This is the only Fabre red wine that comes from the Uco Valley, from their own vineyards in the Gualtallary area, towards the north of the valley. It is a blend of vineyards around 1,400 metres above the sea level, planted on sand and limstone soils that re typical of this area. It is a delicious Malbec in its fruity expression, juicy, intense in acidity, but also in herbal and floral tones; the tannins are firm, like a good mountain wine. A clear sign of place.
