BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2019 Estate bottled, DOCG |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
LA TORRE |
This small estate of only 5.6 hectares only produces Brunello di Montalcino Riserva only in outstanding years. It has a medium deep garnet red colour and an intense, fairly complex, somewhat smoky nose with Damson plum and dried red cherry fruit along with leather-sandalwood-nuanced dried roses. Dry medium-full bodied, intense, well balanced sandalwood-tinged,Damson plum fruit with cassis/black cherry notes followed up with a lingering, fcomplex, cedary finish. It has 14.5% alcohol and under 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L03/R3 on the front label. The wine was aged for 48 months in large 39-hectolitres barrels of Slavonian oak with about 15% spending 12 months in smaller French barrique. Only 14,000 bottles are produced. |

TASTING NOTE: The organic La Torre 2019 Brunello di Montalcino is elegant and tight with floral notes, iris root and a sweet note of cherry confit or crème de cassis. It has a cushiony feel, or bounce, and the wine envelopes the whole palate without pulling too strong in any one direction. Some sweetness carries to the palate. This pretty wine would benefit from a few more years of bottle age. Drink date: 2026-2040. Score - 95+ (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Dec. 14, 2023) |
