NEW in Vintages, this new blend of 61% Merlot and 39% Cabernet Franc offers lots of ripe perfectly accessible fruit at a great price. Fairly deep purple-red in colour, the nose shows bright, ripe, plummy, red and black cherries with some gently complex, toasty notes. Dry, medium bodied, well balanced, ripe, plummy, red cherry flavours with a lingering, gently cedary, lifted, nicely structured finish. Aged in oak barrels for 12 months (15% new) and (most important) unfined and unfiltered. Perfect pairing with a steak, it has 14% alcohol, 2 g/L residual sugar and 6.1 g/L total acidity. It is showing nicely now, but can age for another 5 years. A REPEAT of the recommended 2020 (***) that was released on March 4, 2023 at $28.95. |

TASTING NOTE: This is a blend of 61% Merlot and 39% Cabernet Franc all sourced from Niagara-on-the-Lake that spent 18 months in French oak (mostly used barrels). Interestingly, the Cab Franc portion was fermented in concrete with the rest fermented in stainless steel. It has a big, heady nose of dense black cherries, blackberries, black currants, rich barrel spice notes and subtle earthy/savoury accents. It's bold and sassy on the palate with tannic grip and a firm structure with a range of dark berries, wild raspberries, licorice, eucalypt, fine oak spices, toasted vanilla bean, and a lifted, long finish.
