PETALOS 2022 DO Bierzo
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer DESCENDIENTES DE J. PALACIOS
This 7th LCBO release of Petalos has a very deep intense purple colour. Lovely, intense, gently cedary, vanilla stick nose with complex, ripe, plum-black-cherry notes. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, quite well structured, harmonious, slightly spicy, bright, intense, ripe, plum-crancherry flavours with a lingering, harmonious, lifted, blueberry-cedar finish. This new blend of only 85% Mencía, 5% other red grape varieties and 10% white grapes was aged 10 months in barrels and bocoys. It has 13.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar. CSPC 446484

TASTING NOTE: The 2022 Pétalos was produced with 85% Mencía, 10% white grapes and 5% other reds from over 90 hectares, 20% owned by them and the rest from 180 families. It fermented with some full clusters in oak and stainless steel vats and matured in barrels of different sizes for 10 months. It's clearly more Mediterranean, with notes of rockrose and other aromatic herbs, juicy and round, more fruit-driven, aromatic, velvety and very pleasant and easy to drink. Drink date: 2024-2029.
