CHATEAU VIEUX CHEVROL 2020 AC Lalande de Pomerol
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer
This Lalande de Pomerol is the kind of Bordeaux that goes perfectly with a Sunday rib roast. Deep intense purple colour, the nose is gently savoury with ripe, plummy, crancherry fruit and some very slightly spicy cedary notes. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, nicely structured, faintly savoury, ripe, plum-crancherry flavours with a lingering, gently cedary, still faintly grippy finish. A blend of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon was aged 12 months in 600 liter French oak casks and bottled unfiltered, it has 14% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar. This seventh Vintages release could use another year or so in bottle. CSPC 525931

TASTING NOTE: A new wine for me, the 2020 Vieux Chevrol is fabulous. Readers will find a classically built, midweight Lalande de Pomerol that emphasizes energy and focus more than volume, as is often the case in this appellation. Inky fruit, gravel, rose petal, spice, mint and mocha are all finely cut. This is a gorgeous wine. Drinking window: 2025-2035. Score - 90-92 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, June 1, 2021) Price $ 34.95
