NUTTY SOLERA MEDIUM OLOROSO SHERRY DO, Spain |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
GONZALEZ BYASS |
Unfortunately, the HST-free LCBO $17.25 price ended mid-morning on Saturday March 1st. Medium-light golden amber colour. Very attractive, sweet, honeyed, faintly citrusy, caramel-driven, toffee-mocca nose. Lovely, sweet, medium to medium-full bodied, slightly spicy, plummy, intense, caramelized, toffee flavours with a lingering, maple-syrup-inspired, lifted, creamy, bright, Seville orange-marmalade-tinged finish. This very tasty blend of 83% Palomino and 17% Pedro Ximenez has an average of 8 years of aging in American oak. It ends up with 20% alcohol, 72 g/L residual sugar and 5 g/L total acidity with lot number L243122 on the back label. This 15th Vintages release dates back to May 10, 2003. |

TASTING NOTE: Another arch-classic bottling from González-Byass, medium-sweet as advertised, balanced by the pleasantly bitter-nutty-caramelized flavours of such long, oxidative barrel ageing. The finish lingers on and on, and complexity is excellent in the category. Enjoy lightly chilled with cured ham and hard cheeses, or slow-braised game dishes with lots of matching umami. Tasted January 2024. Score - 91 (John Szabo, MS, winealign.com) |
