WINEMAKER'S BLEND CABERNET FRANC 2021 VQA Niagara Peninsula |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
THIRTY BENCH |
This crowd-pleasing 100% Cabernet Franc has a fairly deep violet-tinged red colour and an attractive, slightly spicy, ripe, plum-cherry-raspberry fruit nose with some leafy-sandalwood-cedar notes. Dry, medium bodied, nicely structured, harmonious, bright, ripe, Damson plum, raspberry-cherry-cassis fruit flavours with a lingering, gently cedary finish. After a 12-day maceration in open wooden fermenters, the wine was then barrel aged in 80% French oak and 20% American oak for 12 months (25% new - the balance 2 to 5 years old). It has full malolactic fermentation with 5.6 g/L total acidity and 12.6% alcohol with 2.8 g/L residual sugar. Perfect to drink today, it will keep for several more years. Only 725 cases produced - don’t miss it. |

TASTING NOTE: This wine is 100% Cabernet Franc, which is a variety that did exceptionally well in Niagara's 2021 vintage. With dark plum, blackcurrant, blueberry, spice, savoury herbs, and gently incorporated oak, this is not a shy wine in any respect, but it carries its power with an easy elegance and sophistication. Drink through 2030+. |
