CHARDONNAY 2023 California
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer SIMI
This 2023 crowd-pleasing California blended Chard still maintains a touch of its ready-to-drink, tropical-toasty style of yesteryear. Happily, this 20th Vintages release (I have reviewed every one to date) is better than the previous 2022 with a touch less oak. It has a bright light straw colour with an intense, slightly spicy, very faintly tropical, ripe, lemon-apple meringue nose with some cedary notes. Dry, medium bodied and smooth, the spicy, tropical-tinged, ripe, lemon-melon-pear puree flavours are followed with a fairly crisp, lingering, gently cedary finish. Best with poultry and white meats, it has 13.5% alcohol and under 3 g/L residual sugar with number 24233 on the lower part of the glass bottle. Screwcap closure and no longer has a Sonoma Valley designation. CSPC 673806
