BARREL AGED BLANC DE BLANC 2017 VQA Beamsville Bench, Niagara Escarpment, Ontario, traditional method |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
KEW |
Forward bright deep straw colour. Intense, complex, slightly spicy, honeyed, ripe, lemon-apple meringue nose with lots of toasty notes. Dry, medium bodied, slightly spicy, gently complex, toasty, ripe, lemon meringue flavours with a lingering, somewhat cedary, effervescent finish. Harmonious and quite ready-to-drink, it has 12.2% alcohol and 9 g/L residual sugar. Note that the intensity of Kew effervescence can on occasion be a tad shy as a result of slightly lower atmosphere pressure. The recommended 2011 with 91-points was released on November 23, 2019 at $29.95. |

TASTING NOTE: Made from 100% Chardonnay, this bubbly spent five years ageing on the lees in barrel, imparting beautiful richness and depth. It evokes late-autumn apple, ripe pear, toasted macadamia nut, and a touch of citrus. It finishes with great length and toasty decadence. [National Wine Awards of Canada did not include a tasting note.] Score - 90 (National Wine Awards of Canada, 2023) |
