PREMIER CUVÉE SPARKLING 2018 Traditional method, VQA Niagara Peninsula, Ontario
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer 13TH STREET
Bright medium straw colour with some streams of tiny bubbles. Quite intense, somewhat leesy, gently toasty, maturing, ripe lemon-apple puree nose. Dry and lively with spicy, bright, effervescent, fairly rich, well structured, harmonious, ripe, lemon-apple meringue flavours with a lingering, rather creamy, minerally finish. Shows lots of complexity and is ready to drink. Would make a lovely food companion - from a cheese souffle and mushroom omelette to a lobster risotto. This blend of 63% Chardonnay and 37% Pinot Noir has 12.5% alcohol and only 2 g/L residual sugar with over 48 months of lees in the bottle aging. A best buy at the current $34.80. CSPC 142679

TASTING NOTE: Led by 63 percent chardonnay with (37) pinot noir for something mature, evolved and fully into secondary territory. Aromatic and lovely, with fresh chanterelle mushroom, inclusive of the tell-tale scent of a fresh cut apricot. Though the wine has evolved the acidity does well to maintain energy and keep the dream alive. Yes it is simple, yet crisp and the sort of sparkling scintillant given energy and stimulation by those acids. Crunchy stuff, apples everywhere, though admittedly not the most complex iteration (or vintage) of itself. If too soft and fuzzy for some there should be some love given to this demure sparkling wine all the same. Drink 2024-2026. Tasted blind at #NWACS24, June 2024.
