CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2021 Napa Valley |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
THE PRISONER |
A SECOND REPEAT of the 2021 (***) that was last released on July 6, 2024 at $69.95. Here is our previous tasting note. Extremely deep intense purple colour. Attractive, very bright, gently complex, ripe, plummy-black-cherry-cassis nose with some slightly spicy, cedary notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, well structured, intense, harmonious, ripe, bright, cassis-plum-black-cherry fruit flavours with fine mouhfeel and balance followed up be a lingering, gently cedary, raspberry-cassis finish. Very tasty and accessible now, it should hold well for a several more years. This crowd-pleasing blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Malbec, Petite Sirah and Charbono was aged 15 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels (55% new). It has 15% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar. |

TASTING NOTE: Consistently bold, The Prisoner cabernet sauvignon is enhanced with small amounts of merlot, syrah, malbec, petite sirah, and charbono grapes which have been aged for 15 months in both old and new French and American barrels. Blousy but not sweet with very good concentration and nice bit of graphite and bitterness to lend dimension to the palate. A reasonably balanced vintage for this wine. Chill slightly to quell the heat. Best 2025-2030. Tasted July 2024. Score - 90 (Sara d'Amato, winealign.com) |
