LE GRAND CLOS PINOT NOIR 2020 VQA Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara Escarpment, Ontario
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer LE CLOS JORDANNE
A FOURTH REPEAT of the 2020 that was last released November 18, 2023. This wine continues to improve. Out of 4 new Nov 16 Pinot Noirs just blind tasted, it came out on top! Deep purple-tinged red colour. Initially slightly restrained, the nose opens beautifully with ripe Damson plums, raspberry-cassis-cherry-cranberry fruit and mineral-tinged, elegant cedar notes. Dry, medium-plus bodied and quite well structured with refined, ripe, plum-raspberry-cherry fruit that is followed up by a lingering, gently complex, cedary, bright finish. Fine well-textured mouthfeel suggests minimal filtration. It has 13.5% alcohol and under 2 g/L residual sugar and a screwcap closure. CSPC 184564

TASTING NOTE: Now coming around the first curve, gathering speed but also accumulating terroir. In an earthy moment at this stage, fruit somewhat secondary to the umami elements of the wine. A bit dumb it would seem so put them away and come back in the Spring. Last tasted November 2023. Gold Medal winner at the 2023 National Wine Awards of Canada. Score - 93.
