SOFIA BLANC DE BLANCS SPARKLING Monterey County, California
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer FRANCIS COPPOLA
A REPEAT that was released on February 19, 2022 at a hefty $37.95. Here is my previous edited tasting note: Very attractively packaged, this Blanc de Blancs generally sells for under $20 US. It is an unusual blend of Pinot Blanc, Muscat and Riesling. It is made for American entry-level wine fans with non-Champagne budgets. It hits the mark in the US, but perhaps not so much here at $34.95 a pop. On the positive side it has great effervescence and, despite the impression of sweetness, is well balanced and ready-to-drink. Pale straw in colour, the nose very spicy, floral, somewhat honeyed and fruity. Ditto for the palate - well balanced, zesty and fresh - easy to quaff like a very good Prosecco but with more effervescence. It has 12% alcohol and now 15 g/L residual sugar. CSPC 552091

TASTING NOTE: This popular sparkler is a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir Rosé. It's zesty and fresh, with lifted floral aromatics, apple, pear, citrus, honeysuckle, and a delicate spice note. A wonderful sipper that also works well with seafood appetizers. Price $ 34.95
