COUNTY UNFILTERED PINOT NOIR 2020 VQA Prince Edward County, unfiltered
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer NORMAN HARDIE
This just-tasted 2020 is the best County Pinot Noir I have reviewed to date. Bright medium violet-red colour. Elegant, fairly complex, slightly spicy, bright, fragarnt, ripe raspberry fruit with some plummy, gently toasty, notes. Dry, medium bodied, very attractive, nicely structured, still faintly savoury, fresh, ripe, raspberry-tinged, Damson plum flavours with a lingering, bright, gentle mineral-tinged, harmonious finish. Bright with fine cool climate purity that would work well with salmon, poultry and even a steak. Despite a modest 12.1% alcohol, it has very fine mouthfeel due to being unfiltered after 18 months of extended lees aging in barrel. Screwcap closure - it can still evolve for up to another 5 years. TASTING NOTE: This is a nicely styled, fresh and complete pinot with a lovely nose of blueberry/raspberry fruit, florals, a hint of peppery spice. It is light to medium bodied, fresh, firm and very well balanced, with fine sandy tannin. A touch of edgy mossiness and bitterness on the finish. Excellent length. Tasted March 2023.
