GUADO AL TASSO 2021 DOC Bolgheri Superiore |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |

GUADO AL TASSO |
My initial notes with no breathing: Extremely deep intense purple colour. Attractive, intense, very spicy, warm ripe plum-cherry puree nose with lots of cedary sandalwood notes. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, fairly extracty, well structured, harmonious, intense, ripe plummy, warm red cherry flavours with a lingering, fairly crisp, cedar-driven finish that shows good persistence. This very tasty blend of approximately 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot has 14.5% alcohol and under 3 g/L residual sugar. More to come. |

TASTING NOTE: The 2021 Bolgheri Superiore Guado al Tasso is a very beautiful wine, but also quite a departure from the style that made it famous years ago. Readers will find an especially polished Guado al Tasso, a wine that emphasizes finesse more than power. Silky tannins wrap around a core of black cherry fruit, licorice, spice, mocha and new leather. Bright, saline undertones extend the exquisite finish. There's more Cabernet Franc in the blend these days, and that very much comes through in the wine's crazy aromatic presence and feel. The 2021 spent 16 months in wood, three months in used French oak barrels during the malolactic fermentation and then 14 months in barrel (80% new) for the rest of its aging. Gorgeous. Drinking window: 2026-2041. Score - 98 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, Feb. 13, 2024) |
