BRUT RÉSERVE CHAMPAGNE AC, disgorged in 2022 |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
CHARLES HEIDSIECK |
Bright light yellow colour. Very attractive, complex, toasty, ripe lemon meringue nose with some mineral-tinged, warm, buttery, brioche notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, mouthfilling, complex, intense, ripe, lemon meringue flavours followed by a long, lingering, gently toasty, well structured finish. Harmonious with excellent effervescence. A terrific not-to-be-missed classic especially for anyone who enjoys the complex gout Anglais Champagne style. According to the back label this was laid in cellars in 2018 and disgorged in 2022 and incorporates 50% reserve wines. It has 12% alcohol and under 10 g/L residual sugar with lot number L220-16-1 on the back label. It is the best value premium sparkler I have tasted this year and unfortunately only 240 bottles are available. |

TASTING NOTE: [Though not the disgorgement referenced by James Suckling, this wine will reflect a similar quality and taste profile.] Remarkable depth of mature aromas - tons of candied lemon peel, dried pear and brioche - plus wonderful textural richness on the palate make this stand out amongst the regular Brut NVs. Then comes the intense and very long, mineral finish to crown this prince of the category. Based on 2016 base wines, but with 52% reserve wines, almost a third of which were 10 to 20 years of age. Drink or hold. Score - 94 (jamessuckling.com, July 18, 2022) |
