SAN LORENZO GRAN SELEZIONE CHIANTI CLASSICO 2019 DOCG |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
CASTELLO DI AMA |
This single vineyard Gran Selection Chianti Classico is a designation that was only established in 2014. Bright deep purple red in colour. The refined nose shows excellent intensity and complexity with ripe plums and Marasca cherry fruit along with some hints of roses and some faintly earthy-sandalwood-cassis notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, elegant, intense, ripe, plum-cherry-cassis flavours that linger on the palate along with lovely, bright, gentle toasty-vanilla notes. The grapes - 80% Sangiovese, 13% Merlot and 7% Malvasia Nera - are vinifed separately with individual malolactic fermentation in barrel and are then assembled and aged for 12 months in oak barriques (20% new). It has 13.5% alcohol and under 1 g/L residual sugar with lot number L21209 on the back label. |

TASTING NOTE: Perfumed and beautiful with flowers, cherries and raspberries. Forest fruits, too. Full-bodied with extremely fine tannins that run the length of the wine and are wonderfully integrated, spreading across the palate. Lasts for minutes. Better after 2025, but already fantastic. Score - 97 (jamessuckling.com, Dec. 1, 2022) |
