PIAN DELLE VIGNE BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2018 DOCG |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
ANTINORI |
Very deep intense purple colour with a tight faintly ambering edge. Attractive, slightly spicy, gently cedary, complex, ripe plum-crancherry nose with some sandalwood-tinged notes. Dry, medium-full to full bodied, harmonious, dense, well structured, very slightly spicy, intense, ripe, plum-crancherry-cassis flavours with a lingering, cedar-tinged, minerally, bright finish. Showing very well now but you can give it another 3-4 years to evolve. Aged for two years in a variety of large oak casks (30 to 80 hl) and then another year in bottle before being released. This elegant 100% Sangiovese Grosso has 14% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L1098 on the lower part of the glass bottle. A REPEAT of the recommended 2018 (***/***+) that was released on February 3, 2024 at $80.95. |

TASTING NOTE: The nose is a jungle adventure, as sanguine notes of meat and leather intertwine with a thicket of wild herbs, brambles and leaves, and a last hint of wild cherry. The palate teleports to the ice cream parlor on Main Street, serving artisanal, hand-churned mint chip, with a Luxardo cherry on top. A rare combination of extravagant and refreshing. [Drink through 2033+.] Score - 95 (Danielle Callegari, Wine Enthusiast, Dec. 1, 2023) |
