JORDAN VILLAGE PINOT NOIR 2021 VQA Niagara Peninsula |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
LE CLOS JORDANNE |
Fairly deep garnet red colour. Very bright, slightly spicy, perfumed, ripe, plum-cherry-cassis nose with some refined cedary notes. Dry, medium bodied, nicely structured, gently complex, very slightly spicy, intense, ripe, plum-cherry-cassis flavours with a crisp, slightly spicy, lingering, gently cedar-tinged finish. After full malolactic the wine is aged for 20 months in premium French oak barrels (20% new) with staves that have been air dried for three years (an expensive process that reduces wood tannins and eliminates any sappy notes). It has 13.5% alcohol, 2 g/L residual sugar and 5.8g/L total acidity with a screwcap closure and lot number L230623 on the lower part of the glass bottle. A REPEAT of the recommended 2021 (***) that was released on April 27, 2024 at $29.95. |

TASTING NOTE: This is a perfumed and poised, yet flavourful and structured example of Ontario pinot noir, made by talented and passionate winemaker, Thomas Bachelder. Oak-derived spices are seamlessly woven into a silken palate infused with fleshy red berries, dark cherries, dried herbs, and the beguiling scent of fresh magnolias. This is a wine that is already balanced and integrated, though it will benefit from a year or two in the cellar. The finish is long and intense, ending on a spice-infused note. Tasted April 2024. Score - 92 (Megha Jandhyala, winealign.com) |
