ESTATE ORGANIC GAMAY 2022 VQA Lincoln Lakeshore, Niagara Peninsula |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
HIDDEN BENCH |
Bright deep violet-red colour. Fairly intense, rather complex, somewhat earthy and savoury on the nose with baked ripe plum-cherry fruit aromatics. Dry, medium-full bodied, fairly dense and quite mouthfilling with vibrant, ripe, plum-crancherry-raspberry flavours and a lingering, bright, gently spicy, minerally finish. The 573 cases are made from special French Gamay clones - 16% were fermented whole cluster. It has 12.7% alcohol, under 1 g/L residual sugar and 5.9 g/L total acidity. It spent 9 months in a mix of French oak and then was blended and aged in a stainless steel tank for 8 months. Unfined and unfiltered. Bottled April 5, 2024 (2024-04-05 on the lower part of the glass bottle) which accounts for a touch of youthful reductiveness on the nose and the intense but somewhat still disjointed flavours. You can simply decant or age another 6-9 months to let this Gamay settle down and improve. |
