LOU COUCARDIÉ 2019 AC Costierès de Nîmes |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
DOMAINE GASSIER |
This is the 2019 and NOT the 2017 that appears in the Vintages Catalogue. It has a youthful deep intense purple colour with a very attractive, intense, rich, ripe, warm, Damson plum nose with some mineral-tinged, woodsy, sandalwood-cedar notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, harmonious, well structure and mouthfilling, the lovely, ripe, plum-black-cherry-cassis fruit flavours are followed up by a lingering, gently lifted, complex, slightly smoky, cedary, harmonious finish. Delicious and quite ready-to-drink. This new blend of 55% Mourvèdre, 25% Grenache and 20% Syrah has 14.5% alcohol and under 2 g/L residual sugar. |

THE 2019 IS ON THE SHELVES - NOT THE 2017. TASTING NOTE: Michel commented that the Mourvèdre was wonderful in 2017, and the 2017 Costières de Nîmes Lou Coucardié checks in as 50% Mourvèdre, 30% Grenache and the balance Syrah, all aging in 500- and 600-liter barrels. It's an incredible looking barrel sample that has a deep, rich, opulent bouquet of blueberries, cassis, raspberries, spiced meats, and garrigue. Thick, powerful and concentrated, yet perfectly balanced, with ample tannin, it's a rock star of a wine that's going to benefit from short-term cellaring and shine for over a decade. [This is showing well and is demonstrating the potential to see 2030+.] Score - 94-96 (jebdunnuck.com, Aug. 28, 2018) |
