ORMARINE |
| Bordering the Mediterranean Sea, the AOC Picpoul de Pinet extends over an area of only 1,400 ha solely devoted to the white Piquepoul grape and is the largest white wine region in the Languedoc. Medium straw colour, it has a slightly spicy, faintly honeyed, floral, Chamomile nose with lemon-apple fruit and some slightly nutty-leesy-minerally notes. Dry, medium to medium-light bodied, fresh, bright, very crisp, lightish, apple-lemon-melon flavours with a lingering, minerally finish. Great with oysters and seafood, but perhaps a bit of an acquired taste. A good - not great - example that I believe is worth trying. It has 12.5% alcohol and under 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number 24141 on the lower part of the glass bottle. Screwcap closure. |

| TASTING NOTE: Though Picpoul de Pinet was granted AP status only recently, Picpoul has been grown in the region since as early as the 14th century. It was originally used for making vermouth, until winemakers discovered that its zippy, electrifying character made it an excellent accompaniment to seafood dishes like grilled shrimp or clam chowder. |
