PEPE YLLERA 2020 DO Ribera del Duero |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
GRUPO YLLERA |
NEW in Vintages. Fairly deep purple-red colour. intense, mineral-tinged, still youthful, ripe plum driven nose with some gentle toasty notes. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, well structured, intense, youthful, ripe, plum fruit with some crancherry-cassis notes followed up by a lingering, red-pepper-tinged, gently cedary, bright, palate-cleansing finish. Great with steak, this tasty blend of 84% Tempranillo, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Merlot has 14% alcohol and under 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L23347 on the lower part of the glass bottle. Aged for 10 months in 225-500L American and French oak barrels. You may wish to decant prior to serving as it opens up nicely after being allowed to breath for 15 minutes. |

TASTING NOTE: The spicy and peppery 2020 Pepe Yllera was an improvement over the already great 2019 I tasted next to it. It's serious, fresh, juicy, velvety and balanced. They told me 2020 (and 2021) was a vintage when the Cabernet Sauvignon ripened thoroughly. It's medium-bodied, velvety and very tasty, fresh, elegant, serious and young. This tasted like a much more expensive bottle of wine... Drink date: 2023-2028. Score - 92 (Luis Gutiérrez, robertparker.com, Jan. 31, 2023) |
