JACKSON-TRIGGS GRAND RESERVE SAUVIGNON BLANC 2022 VQA Niagara Peninsula |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
JACKSON-TRIGGS |
Bright pale straw colour. Fairly pungent, intense, spicy, youthful, somewhat herbaceous nose with honeyed, ripe, apple-melon purée fruit along with some mineral notes. Dry, medium bodied, very bright, slightly spicy, youthful, ripe, lemony-apple flavours with a lingering, fairly crisp, chalky-mineral, bruised peach finish. Approximately 7% was fermented in older French oak and one new puncheon. Still needs time to evolve - it actually improves with decanting. It was awarded a gold medal at the recent 2024 Concours Mondial de Bruxelles Selection Sauvignon Competition. It has 12.3% alcohol and 1.5 g/L residual sugar with 5.8 g/L total acidity and lot number 220616 on the lower part of the glass bottle. Over 1,000 cases produced and currently only available at the winery/. |

TASTING NOTE: Fruit for this wine comes from the Tufford Road Vineyard in Lincoln Lakeshore, after which it's left on the skins for eight hours before pressing. The end result is a complex wine brimming with gooseberry, mango, pineapple, pear, river pebbles and freshly cut grass. The producer suggests pairings of shrimp tempura, fish tacos, or creamy pasta with mussels. |
