ROCCHE DELL'ANNUNZIATA BAROLO 2017 DOCG |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
ROCCHE COSTAMAGNA |
Here is a fairly modern take on the traditional “old school” Barolo style that shows finesse and elegance as well as power. Medium-deep faintly ambering garnet-ruby red. The nose is intense, slightly spicy and faintly leathery with some licorice-tinged, attractive, ripe plum fruit. It’s dry, medium to medium-full bodied, fairly tangy and gently spicy with an intense, sandalwood-tinged, attractive, ripe, plum-cherry-cassis fruit and a lingering, crisp, elegant, well structured, fairly complex, licorice-tinged finish. Accessible now but will improve. Aged for 18 months in 30 hl Slovanian oak barrels, it has 14.5% alcohol and about 2 g/L residual sugar. Better than the recommended 2016 (***/***+) that was released on October 30, 2021 at $59.95. |

TASTING NOTE: Aromas of sweet berries, roses and other flowers. Fragrant. Full-bodied with chewy yet fine tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Ripe and intense, but held together and framed with polished phenolics. Try after 2025 [into mid 2030s]. Score - 95 (jamessuckling.com, July 2, 2021) |
