GRAN RESERVA CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2018 Mendoza
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer FABRE MONTMAYOU
NEW in Vintages - here is my now updated note. Extremely deep intense purple colour. Rich, complex, intense, ripe, plum nose with some gently cedary, bright cassis notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, intense, very youthful, ripe plum flavours with a lingering, well structured, gently complex finish. It has 14.5% alcohol and under 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L18522 on the back label (bottled July 4, 2022). This hefty Cabernet Sauvignon would be great with a T-bone steak and a big glass. Should aged well for several more years. CSPC 24888

A Best Buy
TASTING NOTE: For this cabernet sauvignon, Fabre Montmayou buys grapes from a 50-year-old vineyard planted on alluvial soils rich in sand and gravel in Agrelo. 100% aged in barrels (20% new oak), this has a strong herbal component that is unusual in Mendoza's cabernets. According to the winemaker, Juan Bruzzone, this is due to the way they manage the vineyard (partially protecting the bunches from the sun to preserve freshness) and to the herbal side of the variety. The rest is ripe and juicy red fruit in a firm body with sharp tannins and good caliber on the palate. This is one of the good cabernets in Argentina today.
