PEDRERA MONASTRELL 2020 DOP Jumilla
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer JUAN GIL
It's great to discover terrific non-Vintages LCBO releases that are worthy of a detour. This is especially true during the holidays when it's all to easy to overspend. Tasting this new 2020 Pedrera Monastrell was a treat especially for only $12.90 a bottle. It comes from esteemed Juan Gil bodega located in the southeast Jumilla region of Spain near the Mediterranean. The focus here is freshness and drinkability at an affordable price. It hits spot on. Youthful deep purple colour, the nose is very attractive, slightly spicy and bright with ripe, plummy, black cherry fruit. It is dry, medium bodied and smooth with fresh, intense, ripe, plum-cherry fruit flavours along with a lingering, raspberry-tinged finish. A versatile, ready-to-drink, crowd-pleaser which is perfect with roasted meats, pasta and even turkey. This unoaked 100% Monastrell has 13.5% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar with lot number L-011212 on the back label. CSPC 22648
