QUADRUS RED 2016 DOP Douro |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
QUADRUS |
This hefty 2016 has a deep intense purple colour and a rather complex, ripe, plummy-black-cherry-cassis nose along with some sandalwood-cedar notes. It’s dry, medium to medium-full bodied and well structured with ripe, intense, Damson plum, black cherry and cassis flavours with a touch of garrigue with some fairly robust sandalwood-cedar notes on the lingering finish. Quite extracty with fine mouthfeel, this ripe blend of 55% Touriga Nacional, 30% Tinta Roriz and 15% Sousao has 14% alcohol and now according to the LCBO 5 g/L residual sugar with lot number L-MVQT16 on the back label. |

Douro is where Portugal's famous sweet Port wines are from, but the region produces superb dry table wines as well. This one is rich and concentrated, with dark berry, plum, clove, black licorice and pepper. A wine to consider ageing for 3+ years or for enjoying tonight with braised meats. |
