LE GRAND CLOS PINOT NOIR 2020 VQA Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara Escarpment |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
LE CLOS JORDANNE |
Medium-deep purple-tinged red colour. When first opened, the nose seemed quite restrained. After being permitted to breath, however, there was significant ripe Damson plum fruit with cassis-cherry-cranberry notes with some mineral-tinged, faint toastiness. It’s dry, medium bodied and quite well structured with refined, albeit still slightly closed, ripe, plum-cherry fruit that is followed up by a lingering, gently complex, slightly cedary, high acid finish. Fine mouthfeel texture suggests minimal filtration. It has 13.5% alcohol and under 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L220617 on the lower part of the glass bottle plus a screwcap closure. It is brighter and fresher than the 2019 which is now showing some age. |

TASTING NOTE: Thomas Bachelder is adept at allowing the character and nature of the vintage to shine through alongside the evocative, distinct qualities of the vineyard. This single-vineyard Pinot Noir is one of Niagara's most important wines. Its dark fruit, structure and balance inform and teach as it delights, and the lesson is one of place. Follow this stunning wine for another 8-10 years. |
