MARCENASCO BAROLO 2018 DOCG
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer RENATO RATTI
Renato Ratti’s single vineyard Marcenasco comes at a significant price, Don’t expect a blockbuster of a Barolo, it’s really all the nuances, shades and intensities of flavours. Take the colour - it’s a gently ambering medium bricky red. The nose is intense, slightly spicy and fairly complex with attractive, dried roses, ripe plum and red licorice notes along with some minerality. Dry and fairly intense on the palate, it’s medium to medium-full bodied, well structured and slightly spicy with elegant, expansive, ripe plum and licorice-tinged, plummy, red cherry flavours with a lingering, bright, gentle, cedar-sandalwood-tinged finish. This seamless 100% Nebbiolo has 14`% alcohol and 2g/L residual sugar with lot number L9121 on the front label. Assessed in an ISO glass from a freshly opened bottle on November 4, 2022. CSPC 713479

TASTING NOTE: This is a classic wine proudly made with consistency over the years by the Ratti family. The 2018 Barolo Marcenasco comes from a vineyard in La Morra that has always been farmed by this estate (but that is not an official MGA). However, it is a brand in its own right known for its especially silky tannins and delicate fiber. The wine shows close-knit aromas of small berries, candied violet and crushed stone. Drink date: 2024-2037. Score - 93 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Aug. 11, 2022) Price $ 70.95
