CENTRAL OTAGO PINOT NOIR 2020 Central Otago, South Island |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |

INVIVO |
Having had the good fortune of visiting this cool climate southern outpost of New Zealand several times, I was enthralled by the 5th Vintages release which is the best to date! This change-of-pace, rather distinctive, flavoursome Central Otago Pinot Noir is not to be missed. In terms of colour it has purple-tinged medium-deep red. The nose shows lots of vibrant, bright, complexity with gently earthy, smoky notes accompanied by intense, warm, rose hip jam and black cherry fruit. Dry, medium bodied, fairly spicy, slightly smoky, faintly leathery, complex, intense, cassis-crancherry-Damson-plum flavours that really go on and on. Quite ready to drink with great mouthfeel. Has 13.8% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number 3422040 on the lower part of the glass bottle and L20INVPN1-D110222 on the back label. Screwcap closure. |

TASTING NOTE: This is so exuberant with great lift and complexity, a journey through red fruit orchards, forest berry patches, an Asian spice market and a BBQ joint. It is very intense, generous and juicy on the palate with all kinds of flavour. Certainly some warmth from 14% alcohol, but it is awash in fruit. Tannins are fine, acidity is juicy. Excellent length. Captivating. Tasted December 2021. Score - 94 (David Lawrason, winealign.com) |
