TRIOMPHE MERLOT 2018 Vegan, VQA Niagara Peninsula |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |

SOUTHBROOK |
Unfortunately does not in the November 5 Vintages Catalogue. Fairly intense deep purple red colour. Attractive, slightly spicy, ripe, plum-cherry purée nose with some cedary-sandalwood notes. Dry, medium bodied, slightly spicy, bright, gently juicy, harmonious, fresh, ripe, plummy-cherry flavours with a lingering, mineral-tinged, very gently cedary, crisp, well balanced finish. This attractive, ready-to-drink, crowd-pleaser has 12.6% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar with a screwcap closure. It was fermented in open top oak vats with wild yeast followed by 100% malolactic fermentation and then aged in French barrels for 12 months. The recommended 2017 (**+) was released on February 22, 2020 at $27.95. |

TASTING NOTE: The 2018 is 100% Merlot sourced primarily from the Laundry Lakeshore Vineyard. It was fermented with wild yeast and aged for one year in French oak and has a gentle oak note underpinning the dark fruit. Try this with a black-bean casserole. |
