TRIOMPHE PINOT NOIR 2019 VQA Niagara Peninsula
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer SOUTHBROOK
NEW in Vintages and, unfortunately, does not in the November 5 Vintages Catalogue. This 2019 has a rather pale red colour. The elegant aromatics with shades of roses, Damson plum and fraise de bois are still a bit shy. These three core elements, however, carry over perfectly to the palate, which is dry, medium bodied, harmonious and bright. It finishes up with a crisp, light but lively lingering, mineral-tinged finish. A great choice for fresh salmon and even fresh oysters on the half shell served without any taste altering garnishes. It has 12.3% alcohol and. 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number 2020-11-16-01 on the lower part of the glass bottle. CSPC 30145

TASTING NOTE: The arc of this triomphe follows a pinot noir curvature as an amount by which the aromatic curve deviates from the typical Niagara straight line and that is how Southbrook carves their own style, as they always do. Not just a matter of organics but of an ear in tune with the natural world, especially with respect to young enzymatic ferments. Winemaker Ann Sperling times this '19 for full juicy effect, drawing out the vivid and the exclamatory for a wine that grabs attention and never lets go. The surface deviates from being a plane, allowing for the kind of curvature that coats the palate in ways that others in its pinot noir ilk do not. This is not atypical but also not typical Niagara pinot, but is surely both delicious and structured. Drink 2021-2025. Tasted April 2021. Score - 91 (Michael Godel, winealign.com) Price $ 29.95
