CHÂTEAU SAINT-PIERRE 2015 4e cru, AC Saint-Julien
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer
I am extremely fond of Saint-Julien wines and am pleased to report that despite the lofty Vintages price tag, this bottle of Chateau Saint-Pierre is truly a winner. The 2015 blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc still has a youthful deep intense purple-edged garnet colour. The nose in my ISO glass is a classic expression of the grapes and terroir - intense, bright, gently complex, ripe Damson plum and warm black-cherry-cassis fruit with some elegant cedar notes and faint hints of earth. Dry, medium-full bodied, complex and flavourful, the perfectly ripe, harmonious, well-textured fruit - cassis, red and black cherry and Damson plum are enveloped with some gentle, mineral-tinged, elegantly earthy, toasty-brioche notes. Delicious, refined and complex - it is showing beautifully now. It spent 14 months in 50% new and 50% once used barrels and has 13.5% alcohol and under 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L15162 - 030717 on the lower part of the glass bottle. CSPC 353516

TASTING NOTE: This 17-hectare estate has been rejuvenated by owner Jean-Louis Triaud and is certainly producing some of the top wines from the appellation today. I tasted the deep, inky-colored 2015 Château Saint-Pierre twice and it's reminiscent of the 2010, only with more elegance. In 2015 the wine is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc and it spent 14 months in 50% new and 50% once used barrels. Chocolate covered dark fruits, damp earth, tobacco leaf, and lead pencil shaving-like notes emerge from this huge, concentrated beauty that has building tannin and a huge mid-palate. It's an incredible wine that builds with time in the glass, has no hard edges and is going to [have] 3-4 decades of life. Bravo! Maturity: 2018-2058.
