CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2017 Coonawarra, South Australia |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
MAJELLA |
Extremely deep intense purple colour. Very intense, cedary, minty, cassis-raspberry-driven nose. Dry, medium-full bodied, very bright, spicy, intense, ripe, cassis-black-cherry fruit flavoured 2017 has lots of mid-palate complexity with some slightly smoky, minty, cedary notes on the lingering finish. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is fermented in both static and rotary stainless steel fermenters with fermentation being completed in 300 litre barrels followed by aginf for a further 18 months in new and second use French oak hogsheads.Has 14.5% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar with lot number L9011 on the lower part of the glass bottle (meaning that it was bottled on January 11, 2019). Screwcap closure with some glass bottle haze evident which is a natural and not a bad thing. |

TASTING NOTE: Pristine blackcurrant and bay leaf flavours come whispered with toasty, cedar wood oak. Truth is though that it tastes of Coonawarra and of cabernet sauvignon and of not much else, in the best of ways. Essence of the variety and of the region. It draws confidently through the palate and is satisfying and then some through the finish. Drink by: 2036. Special Value. Score - 95 (Campbell Mattinson, winecompanion.com.au, June 17, 2021) |
