WINEMAKER'S BLEND CABERNET FRANC 2020 VQA Niagara Peninsula |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
THIRTY BENCH |
NEW in Vintages. It took just one sip to fall in love with this just-released, beautifully structured, 100% Cabernet Franc. It has a deep violet-tinged garnet colour and an attractive, slightly spicy, ripe, plumy-cherry-raspberry fruit nose with some sandalwood and (thankfully) gently cedary notes. Dry, medium bodied, well structured, harmonious, bright, ripe, Damson plum, raspberry-cherry fruit flavours with a lingering, gently cedary, cassis-tinged, slightly toasty finish. After a 14-day maceration in open wooden fermenters, the wine was then barrel aged in 80% French oak and 20% American oak for 12 months (25% new oak, remainder 2 to 5 years old). It has full malolactic fermentation with an excellent 6,2 g/L total acidity and 13.7% alcohol with 2.4 g/L residual sugar. Perfect to drink today, it will keep for a few more years. Only 800 cases produced - don’t miss it. |

TASTING NOTE: 100% Cabernet Franc. Savoury aromas of pencil shavings, herb and vanilla lead to a palate of seamless tannins and defined red fruit. Score - 91 (Decanter World Wine Awards, 2022) |
