ICONOCLAST SYRAH 2020 VQA St. David's Bench, Niagara-on-the-Lake |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
CREEKSIDE |
Extremely bright deep intense purple colour. Youthful, intense, slightly spicy, bright, ripe, plummy, black cherry nose with some gently cedar, notes . Very dry, medium to medium-full bodied, bright, slightly spicy, intense, ripe, plum-cherry-cassis flavours with a lingering, gently cedary, youthful, fairly grippy, slightly savoury finish. Spent 19 months in French and Hungarian oak and has 14.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with a screwcap closure. The lot number L081922 on the lower part of the glass bottle means that it was bottled on August 19, 2022. It is still somewhat disjointed after being so recently bottled and could use at least another six months of aging to come together. It will show much more complexity and will rise from 90 to 91+ points at that time. A definite best buy if you lay it away. |

TASTING NOTE: A classic example of cool-climate Ontario Syrah, this has generous suggestions of cassis, raspberry, black cherry and oak spice, with touches of smoke. Notes of earth and savoury herbs create additional complexity and depth in this lithe, impressive wine. Pair with grilled lamb or grilled eggplant. |
