CHÂTEAU LE GRAND RETOUR |
This just-retasted REPEAT of the 2019 edition of Plan de Dieu is the 17th Vintages release. Fairly deep intense purple colour. The nose is very juicy and ripe with lots of spicy, attractive, plummy-black-cherry-cassis fruit. Dry, medium bodied, harmonious, spicy, fairly intense, quite well structured, ripe, plum-crancherry-cassis flavours with a lingering, harmonious, bright finish. This blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre has 15% alcohol and 4 g/L residual sugar with the same lot number L21342C on the upper part of the glass bottle. A versatile, ready-to-drink, crowd-pleaser it would go well with Thanksgiving turkey. The 2019 (**/**+) was last released on April 30, 2022 at $16.95. |

TASTING NOTE: Deeply-coloured, and deeply fruity Rhône red here from the village of Plan de Dieu, with plush, velvety, full-bodied palate and generous proportions. I find this highly satisfying for the money, and regionally representative. Tannins are supple and offer light resistance, acids round and creamy, and alcohol high (15% declared), so I'd suggest enjoying with a light chill, around 14-16ºC, no more, for maximum enjoyment and drinkability. Enjoy now or hold a year or three. Tasted March 2022. Score - 89 (John Szabo, MS, winealign.com) |
