Viña Tondonia Viña Gravonia Crianza 2013 DOCa Rioja |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
R. López de Heredia |
This one-of-a-kind, limited-editon, idiosyncratic, Vina Tondonia Vina Gravonia is made exclusively from Viura (a.k.a. Macabeo) and aged for 4 years in American oak and was racked twice a year and fined with fresh egg whites. Bright light straw colour. Intense, very cedary, slightly oxidative, spicy, warm, lemon peel nose with lots of nutty, faintly pineapple-tinged notes. Extremely dry, medium-full bodied, well structured, intense with teeth-clenching high acidity followed up by lots of dried ripe lemon-apricot flavours and an extremely long, slightly nutty, very cedary, faintly bitter, minerally, resin-tinged finish. It is a style that’s definitely memorable but certainly not for everyone. This 100% unfiltered Viura has 12.5% alcohol and under 2 g/L residual sugar along with a hefty 7 g/L total acidity and lot number L-0810 on the back label. |

TASTING NOTE: Dried apple, lemon rind, walnut, praline, dried honeysuckle and clove on the nose. Medium-bodied with tangy acidity. Bright and vibrant feel, balancing the rich, waxy layers of dried fruit and spice. Saline undertones. Some nougat and yogurt, too. Long. Drink now or hold.
