Viña Cubillo Crianza 2013 DOCa Rioja
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer R. López de Heredia
This one-of-a-kind, limited-editon, idiosyncratic, Vina Tondonia Vina Gravonia is made exclusively from Viura (a.k.a. Macabeo) and aged for 4years in American oak. and was racked twice a year and fined with fresh egg whites. Bright forward light yellow colour. Very intense, cedary, slightly oxidative, spicy, warm, lemon peel nose with lots of nutty, faintly pineapple-tinged, Bourbon-driven nose. Extremely dry, medium to medium-full bodied, well structured, intense, teeth-clenching high acidity and yet quite mouthfillingwith lots of dried ripe lemon-apricot flavours and a lingering, slightly nutty, very cedary, somewhat bitter finish. This is a love it or hate it style and it’s definitely memorable and not for everyone. A 100% unfiltered Viura that has 12.5% alcohol and according to the LCBO has 2 g/L residual sugar along with a hefty 7 g/L total acidity (vs. 6.5 for the 2011) and lot number L-0604 on the back label. Only 56 cases of 6 are available (2,500 produced). CSPC 692780
