MOURVÈDRE 2019 Valle de Colchagua
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer LAGAR DE CODEGUA
Unfortunately, only 960 bottles of this lovely single vineyard 100% Mourvedre were produced. The agent Nicholas Pearce was able to get 336 bottles for this Flagship store exclusive. It has a medium-deep ruby red colour and a very attractive, fresh, ripe, plummy-raspberry nose with a faint hint of herbes de Provence. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, fairly concentrated and beautifully balanced with fresh, ripe, strawberry-tinged, Damson plum fruit followed up by a long, lingering, gently complex, mouth filling finish. It has 14% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number M019L25920 on the back label. NEW in Vintages. CSPC 24767

TASTING NOTE: The Santa Adriana block was planted to Mediterranean varieties around 2005. It's located by a stream, and the alluvial soils are very rocky and low in fertility. And those soils give wines with lots of flavor, as is the case of this Codegua. It's 100% monastrell (mourvèdre) and has all of the variety's generous red fruit along with the load of fierce tannins associated with this Mediterranean grape. But there's also a freshness here that runs all throughout the wine, from the nose to the finish, which makes it very easy to drink, especially with some cheeses or sausages.
