1882 CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2017 Rutherford, Napa Valley
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer INGLENOOK
Extremely deep intense purple garnet colour. Intense, slightly spicy, bright, ripe plum-cherry puree nose with some cedary, mineral-driven notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, well structured, very slightly spicy, intense, ripe, plum-cherry-cassis flavours with a lingering, gently cedary, minerally, very faintly hebaceous, blueberry-driven finish. This very tasty blend of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 2% Malbec has 14.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar is quite approachable now although it will keep for another decade. TASTING NOTE: A small production, Cabernet-dominated blend that gives ripe red plum and black cherry flavours, tightly wound but wrapped in silky tannins - meaning this has a power to it but in a more accessible delivery. Confident and spiced with flavour and plenty of signature Inglenook balance. Named after the year Gustave Niebaum delivered the first vintage of his new Rutherford estate. 15% new French oak, the rest one-fill barrels both French and American. Drinking window: 2022-2036. Score - 91 (Jane Anson, decanter.com, Sept. 3, 2020) Price $ 71.95
