RISERVA DUCALE ORO GRAN SELEZIONE CHIANTI CLASSICO 2017 DOCG
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer RUFFINO
This Ruffino icon offers reliable drinkability and pleasure. Deep ruby-purple colour, the nose is still rather youthful, fairly complex with slightly spicy, ripe, plummy-red-cherry fruit and gently savoury, cedar-sandalwood, mineral-tinged notes. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, well structured, gently spicy, bright, intense, ripe, youthful, plum-cherry-cassis flavours with a lingering, gently cedary, sandalwood-tinged finish. This new 2017 blend of 80% Sangiovese, 10%, Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot was aged for three years in oak, stainless steel and concrete vats. It has 14.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with a NEW lot number L21252 on the lower part of the glass bottle. This 2017 is preferred to the 2016 (***) that was released on October 2, 2021 at $49.95. It needs time to mature and come together - give it another 2-6 years. CSPC 353201

TASTING NOTE: Here's a lovely, fragrant and complex Gran Selezione, savoury in the regional idiom, with typical dried herbs and tart red fruit, fresh and dried, though remarkably not baked despite the extreme heat of the 2017 vintage, one in which the wines largely seem to defy the conditions of the season. The palate is bone dry and firm, succulent and savoury with excellent density and complexity, also length. A terrific vintage in the final analysis for this classic wine, best now-2030 or so.
